Signs That Your Home Needs New Plumbing Fixtures

No one likes to take on large-scale home projects. Unless it’s an addition you’ve been planning for a while, spending a large chunk of money unexpectedly isn’t something we look forward to. Fortunately, when it comes to plumbing fixtures, there are often signs that indicate it’s time to set money aside for new installments. Hopefully, knowing beforehand will cushion the blow!
Physical Signs on the Fixtures
There are several reasons that your plumbing fixtures might need replacement. Typically, it’s due to age, poor original installation, or a lack of proper upkeep. These three possibilities lead to obvious signs of physical failing: cracking, corroding, and ultimately leaking. This is highly problematic as water damage can wreak havoc on your home and possessions.
Physical Signs in the Home
If your plumbing fixtures are failing, you’ll probably notice before it’s too late. If it’s a leaking sink, for example, you will notice water stains on the walls or even the floor. There will probably be major warping in both of these areas after prolonged saturation.

A problem you notice with your fixture could indicate a plumbing issue somewhere else in your home. For example, low water pressure; if you turn on your shower or faucet and the pressure is unusually low, you should have your home’s plumbing system inspected right away. Be patient in case you have to go behind the walls to mitigate damage. The last thing you need is to deal with a mold outbreak.

Also, look at your water bill month to month and observe any odd spikes in what you’re paying. A sudden jump in your bill may indicate a leak somewhere in the building due to a loose or old fixture.

Water Damage and Mold
A plumbing fixture could be a painless fix with no ramifications or something major, depending on the circumstances. As we mentioned, a faulty fixture that’s allowed to leak for a long time will create major water damage in your home. Depending on the amount of water spilled, it could compromise the building’s structure, deteriorate possessions, and lead to a mold outbreak.

Mold is dangerous for your health, especially when it goes unchecked for weeks or months. The growth will need to be addressed separately from water damage restoration. Keep an eye out for raised, blotchy patches on your walls and flooring, as well as a musty odor. Don’t delay in calling for removal and plumbing work.
